Oooh Ah! Me Dear! It’s Treat Time at this Devon Zoo!!
Rogan the Meerkat has been having a great time getting to know a spooky character at a Theme Park in Devon. Rogan was more interested in whispering sweet nothings to Captain Skeleton instead of eating all the tasty treats which have been hidden in the pumpkins around the Meerkat’s enclosure.
Gibby tucked in straight away to the tasty pumpkins and all the spookilious treats hidden in them.
Head Keeper Elliott Hamilton explained “Woodlands Theme Park is getting into the Halloween Spirit and I felt it was only fair the animals at the Zoo-Farm join in”.
“It was fascinating to watch them really enjoying themselves” Elliott said. “We are always looking for new ways to keep the animals entertained and have found that pumpkins make a great enrichment activity for the animals at the zoo-farm”.
The Iguanas are munching away, the Parrots are eating all the seeds and the Sugar Gliders are having great fun playing hide and seek in all the pumpkins.
Visitors to the Park can see Rogan and Gibby getting fed every day at 3.00pm at the zoo-farm at Woodlands near Dartmouth.

Hi, so what do Peppa Pig, Watercoasters, Tents and Ghanian School Children have in common? Well that would be the two of us. A strange combination perhaps. The slogan ‘All weather Guaranteed’ is not just for our customers! In the summer we work with Seawood the Sea Dragon and in the winter travel our wonderfully diverse world. A combination which works well for us.
Last winter we undertook voluntary work in Ghana, West Africa. A country full of amazingly friendly people. We lived with families in the Ashanti region where we were made to feel so very welcome. They are poor but happy. It does make you appreciate the things which we sometimes take for granted; running water, sanitation, healthcare, education and cheese.
In Ghana schools are private, so if you go to school you have to pay school fees. In a country where malaria in the biggest killer, where HIV/AIDS is a silent issue, where families struggle to get food this can be a challenge.
My voluntary work was teaching at ‘Step by Step Senior High School’. A humbling experience. The school was established by Mahama who also has an Orphanage. He could not afford to educate his orphans so set up his own school. With over 150 students and a team of motivated teachers the school is a ‘success’. Mahama is a great man and provides free or subsidised places for children from struggling families. The school is however very poor and in need of help.
We spend our time working at Woodlands Grove Touring Park in Devon & the Family Theme Park by day and trying to get help for the school by night. Charities/Organisations exist but the challenge is to find the right ones and create the links. We very much hope that our efforts will help our bothers & sisters in Ghana.

Gizmo the Newest Star at Woodlands Zoo-Farm
Tiny three inch Gizmo, an Australian Sugar Glider finally appears after two months tucked up in Mum’s pouch.
This little boy known as a Joey now 2months and 2 weeks old was born at Woodlands Zoo-Farm in Dartmouth, Devon. Sugar Gliders are small nocturnal gliding Marsupials. They get their name for their preference for sweet foods and their ability to glide. The gestation period is only 16 days, after this the newborn travels up to their Mum’s pouch where it stays for 8 weeks continuously attached to one of its Mum’s teats.
Gizmo, who is now enjoying getting to know his surroundings loves being handled by the Keepers at the Zoo-Farm. Beth Lewis Animal Keeper at the farm, explained “We are able to handle Gizmo as his Mum Sophia is very tame. She was hand-reared and is very trusting, she brings Gizmo down to see us and even sits on my shoulder. It can be very hard sometimes to get out of their enclosure as every time I put her down she glides back on to me”.
Gizmo has settled in really well, both Mum and baby are doing great. Gizmo and his parents can be seen in the Nocturnal House at Woodlands Family Theme Park near Dartmouth, Devon.

This year has started off extremely well for us, first we were awarded 5 stars after being inspected by Visit England and only a few days later we were accepted into “the Best of British (BOB) Touring & Holiday Parks Group, a prestigious network of privately owned Five star parks throughout the UK”.
